“Buzz, buzz, buzz”, went the busy bees in the flowers. Jordan ran up to them and tried to catch one. “Don’t do that!” cried out Mummy who was carrying a bunch of pretty flowers, “You will be stung! It will hurt you!”
Jordan pulled back his hand, “Sore” he said. “That’s right”, Mummy said, “Keep away from the busy bees!” So Jordan learned that it is best to keep right away from things that hurt.
They walked back to the house and went inside. Jordan’s little sister Betty, came running out of her room. She saw the flowers that Mummy was carrying and said, “Pretty flowers! Give me some!”
“What do you say when you want something?”, asked Mummy. Betty’s lip began to drop. “I want them!” she said stamping her foot.
“Betty”, said Mummy sternly, “What do you say if you want something?” Betty stopped and thought for a minute. “Please”, she said, “Can I have some flowers please, Mummy”. Mummy smiled, “That’s right”, she said, “ Of course you can have some flowers, Betty,” and gave her some. There is always a right way and a wrong way to ask for things, and Betty tried them both. Mummy was pleased when she asked in the right way.
Betty ran off to the kitchen with her flowers and tried to reach for a jar to put them in. Jordan ran after her. He reached up into the cupboard and got a jar down, “Here you are Betty,” he said. He put some water out of the tap into the jar and gave it to her. She put it on the floor and started to put the flowers in it. Jordan put some in too, but Betty pushed him away. “No”, she cried, “Go away! I can do it by myself!”
Jordan started to bellow, and Mummy came into the room. “Betty”, she said, “Let Jordan help. He is only trying to help you. You must share your flowers with him. It is the kind thing to do”. It is not always easy to share, but it made Mummy happy to see Betty and Jordan putting the flowers in together.
“Betty”, Mummy said, ”I think you had better pick that jar of flowers up and put it on the table. You might knock it over if it stays on the floor”. Jordan jumped up and accidentally knocked it over. Water went all over the floor everywhere. “See what I mean?” Mummy asked.
Betty started crying and pushed Jordan away, “Naughty boy!,” she said, “You are a mean naughty boy!”
Jordan gave her a swipe but missed, and Betty roared all the more.
“Now, now,” said Mummy, “ We all make mistakes. Betty, stop that noise. Jordan didn’t mean to do it. Accidents will happen. Next time it might be you! Jordan you mustn’t hit your little sister”.
So both Jordan and Betty learned that day that anyone can have an accident. An accident can’t be helped. Mummy wiped the mess up and put the flowers up on the table out of the way.
“Now I want you to go outside and play while I get lunch ready”, Mummy said.
So Betty and Jordan went outside into the garden.
